5 New Year’s Resolutions to Consider!

2022 is a stone’s throw away! Can you believe it!? Literally around the very next bend. It felt like yesterday that we were celebrating the birth of 2021. With advent of every new year comes an opportunity to consider where you’re headed in life, and asses whether the actions you’re taking today will guide to where you would like to end up tomorrow. Here at Home-Connect we have put together a list of 5 healthy New Year’s resolutions to consider. Yes, they may be slightly existential – but nevertheless, when the clock strikes 12, hopefully they’ll set you on the right track so you get to where you’re headed.

1.) Learn to be content.

One of the underlying themes of Robert T. Kiyosaki’s book, ‘Rich Dad, Poor Dad’ is being content. Contentment is described as ‘a state of satisfaction’. And being satisfied is a highly undervalued commodity in our modern day society. Life implores us to always want more – whether that’s more money, a better job, more work, whatever. Now being content doesn’t mean you lack drive, as it’s important for one to live to their full potential, but to remain satisfied while doing so.

Contentment can help you distinguish between wants and needs. When you are content, you may not desire for anything more than what you need. The abundance of the present is enough to lead a happy and healthy life. Contentment often leads to the realisation that joy doesn’t come from things.

2.) Find ways to save.

There are times when life is extreme, for an example when we are studying for exams or when we have a massive deadline at work – those are times when you have to put the peddle to the metal. But in general one needs to search for a balance in life. Which means, when we talk about, finding ways to save, we’re not encouraging you to save every single penny you earn and become a hermit in the process never seeing your friends – but to implement small manageable ways where you can save money.

Here are some simple Home-Connect money-saving tips:

– Make breakfast and lunch at home.

– Limit the amount of Cuppachinos you spend money on.

– Look at your entertainment apps and keep the ones you use regularly.

– Keep track of your expenses so that you can analyse where you’re spending most of your money.

– Save on your utility bills by turning off unnecessary lights and appliances.

3.) Eat healthier.

It seems like every person on this planet is on some sort of diet or weight loss program. Here at Home-Connect, we’re not encouraging you to eat healthier for superficial reasons but to live a healthier life. We owe it to our bodies to treat them well. After all, they are our earthly vessels. Not only will eating healthy make us feel more energetic, it will also help us rest better and think clearer. Here are several ways you can eat better:

– Avoid processed and fast food.

– Try, when you have time to introduce meal prepping so you have go-to snacks and lunches.

– Make healthy means and freeze them.

– When you go out to eat – choose healthy restaurant options

4.) 10 years time.

In Stephen R. Convey’s book, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People – one of the habits is called: Begin With the End in Mind. He takes his readers through a process of imagining they were at their own funeral (a touch morbid we know – but bare with us here) and then imagining how people would remember you. And we’re not talking about what people say about you, but what people really and truly remember about who you were. And then orientate your life so that how you want to be remembered is what you value. Imagining your own funeral is a touch too morbid for this light and fun blog post – so ask yourself, where would you like to be in 10 years? And then put in place life values that will see you get there.
